Sea-spray icing is the most severe form of icing in marine offshore operations, including ships, buoys and drilling platforms. Such icing events can cause ships to sink and even superstructures to collapse, and thus critically affect worker safety.
However, various de-icing and anti-icing methods can be used on offshore structures, including mechanical and thermal methods, and, more recently, icephobic coatings as well as hybrid methods.
AMIL can conduct Static Ice Accumulation Tests on various shapes of collectors in order to determine ice accumulation reduction, de-icing method efficiency, or even help in the development of new methods. We can simulate different conditions, such as white cap spray and interaction spray.
