AMIL keeps an official list of all AMS 1428 fluids tested as per Appendix A of AMS 1428 Revision F onwards. Commercial fluids may be added to the list only on specific request from the manufacturers. Gel Residues Charts
Anti-icing Fluids Gel Residue Testing Results
The following charts depict the weight of gel residue remaining on a clean, non-coated, vertical aluminum plate that has been dipped in anti-icing fluid and subjected to successive dry-out and hydration cycles in accordance with Appendix A of AMS 1428 Revision F onwards. Due to the laboratory controlled nature of the trial versus actual “field” conditions, the chart is intended as a partial guide in order to make a well-informed anti-icing fluid decision in terms of a fluid’s residue characteristics. For more information regarding the results for individual brand name fluids, contact the fluid manufacturers.
An acceptance limit of 4 grams or below was added to Appendix A in Revision G of AMS 1428. New fluids with a residue performance higher than 4 grams will no longer be approved. This does not mean that fluids with a residue performance of 4 grams or below will not cause residue issues in the “field”.
